History was made today as Cardinal Bergoglio was elected Pope Francis became the next leader of the Catholic Church. I video taped the coverage and was surprised when EB came into the picture for a second during the coverage. Evidently, he was permitted to be among the few who accompanied the new Pope as he spoke to the masses. I’m very excited about our new pope and pray that he will bring Catholics together and lead us into an era of renewed faith, tolerance and love. This will be a special Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with our new Pope Francis I.
EB was a special guest at the Conclave at the Vatican today. He was among a group of special dignitaries that were invited to attend. He bought along several copies of “A Rabbit’s Tale An Easter Story” for the new pope.
When it was time to officially begin the Conclave, the papal master of ceremonies, Msgr. Guido Marini, said the words “extra omnes”, which means “everyone out”. Several dozen attendants, clergymen and Vatican officials left, including the man that had been Benedict’s longtime personal secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein.
But before all the Cardinals retired behind locked doors to conduct Conclave business and elect a new pope, they each shook EB’s hand and spoke words of blessings on this amazing rabbit. Later, at 7:41 pm, black smoke emerged from the special chimney signifying the world was still popeless. We will see what tomorrow brings.
